34" (86 cm.) All-cloth doll with sewn-on muslin head having stiffened and oil-painted hair,complexion and facial features,intricately shaped head with two flared side panels giving shape to the back of the head,flat-dimensional face,black painted soft curly hair with well-defined curls at each side of face,outlined large blue eyes,accent eye dots,fringed brows,outlined nose,center accent line on lips,rag-filled original muslin body with elongated limbs,antique sailor costume. Condition: generally excellent,some body repair. Comments: American,circa 1890,unknown folk artist. Value Points: especially fine painting of hair with ringlet detail,the boy owns his own early well-worn teddy bear (probably Steiff).
