17" (43 cm.) All-cloth doll,stitch-attached head with stiffened oil-painted hair,chin seam lending extra definition to head shape,complexion and facial features,short brown delicately curled hair,prominent brown painted eyes with eyeliner and brows,defined nose with accented nostrils,closed mouth with center accent line,muslin body with stitch jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and knees,oil-painted lower arms with stitch-defined fingers. Condition: very good,some typical age rubs on complexion,some patching on upper body. Comments: American,circa 1885,unknown folk artist or small cottage industry. Value Points: nicely detailed painting of face in the manner of itinerant portrait painters of the era,nice antique costume,undergarments,sunbonnet,stockings,shoes. Included is antique toy wooden abacus.
