17" (43 cm.) All-cloth doll,stitch-attached head with stiffened
oil-painted hair,chin seam lending extra definition to head
shape,complexion and facial features,short brown delicately-curled
hair,prominent brown painted eyes with eyeliner and brows,defined
nose with accented nostrils,closed mouth with center accent
line,muslin body with stitch jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and
knees,oil-painted lower arms with stitch-defined fingers.
Condition: very good,some typical age rubs on complexion,some
patching on upper body. Comments: American,circa 1885,unknown folk
artist or small cottage industry. Value Points: nicely detailed
painting of face in the manner of itinerant portrait painters of
the era,nice antique
costume,undergarments,sunbonnet,stockings,shoes. Included is
antique toy wooden abacus.
