19" (48 cm.) All cloth doll with flat-dimensional face and gusset- jointed side seams in the manner of Columbian dolls,painted short curly hair with shaded brown-to-blonde,painted complexion,blue eyes with pronounced white eyedots,red and black upper eyeliner,feathered brows,outlined nose,closed mouth with shaded lips having upturned lip corners,muslin body with stitch-jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and knees,stitched-together fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: American,late 19th century,the construction in the manner of Emma Adams Columbian Doll,yet with variation of painting. Value Points: exceptional beauty of the painting is worthy of comparison to folk oil portrait paintings in the manner of William Matthew Prior; the doll wears original costume.
