Description
27" (69 cm.) Flat-dimensional oil-painted face is stitch attached to a muslin head and torso, with painted blonde curly shaded hair, shaded brows, bright blue eyes with red upper liner, outlined nose, closed mouth with shaded upper lip and coral lower lip, blushed cheeks,oil-painted lower arms. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: American, circa 1885,folk art in the manner of itinerant portrait painters that traveled the by-roads of America throughout the1800s waging their art; in this case the remarkably sensitive "painting" was formed into a doll rather than being framed and hung on a wall. Value Points: very fine artistry on the well-preserved doll, with fine antique costume.
