Description
14" (36 cm.) Of light brown muslin with firmly-stuffed one-piece
head and torso,stitch-jointed shoulders and hips,embroidered
definition of fingers,oil-painted high orange stockings and black
shoes,hand-painted facial features and hair with brown outlined
eyes,brown eye shadow,outlined brows,nose and mouth with red lips
and defined teeth,laughter lines drawn at eye corners and
cheeks,painted hair. Condition: generally excellent,unplayed with.
Marks: Bye Bye Kids Strictly Sanitary (front torso mark,and
separate stamp "Old Mammy"). Comments: Bach Brothers of New York
advertised a complete line of cloth dolls in a 1909 issue of
Playthings; the costumes and style clearly intended to emulate the
popular Babyland Rag line of Horsman. Value Points: rare doll in
impeccable condition with extra details of facial design,original
costume with added lettering "Class Day 09" and Greek letters
suggesting a raffle prize at a 1909 sorority event.
