Description
14" (36 cm.) All-cloth doll with hard pressed stitched-on head
with oil-painted hair,complexion and facial features,brown painted
brush stroked hair,painted blue eyes with white spiral
threading,accented nostrils,black upper eyeliner,closed
mouth,firmly stuffed muslin body,composition and wooden ball-
jointed body,disc-jointed hips with one-piece plump legs,and
uniquely-stitched toes. Condition: generally excellent,some light
flaking on hair. Comments: Germany,circa 1920,from the series of
dolls by various German makers inspired by Kathe Kruse,this
example attributed to the firm of Gunther Heine who advertised his
doll to be "as beautiful and vital as a natural child" Value
Points: well-designed doll with original painted finish and sturdy
original body,antique costume with celluloid vintage pin "What we
have,we'll hold".
