Description
18" (46 cm.) h. x 24"w. x 16"d. Arranged upon a wooden platform with painted and lithographed cover and with scrolled sides and mirrored curtained back wall are nine bisque head children arranged in playful settings. Seated at a table is a little girl playing teacher with her two students, at the back are two boys playing on hobby horse, three other girls play with little toy clowns and ball, and a boy stands in front of a grandfather clock. When wound, music plays, and a series of actions occur: teacher waves her rod and students eagerly raise and lower their arms while the table globe twirls around; one boy appears to lean on the rocking horse, the girls' arms wave their dolls up and down and the ball actually twirls around by itself; and finally one boy points eagerly to the clock because a little mouse is running up and down the side, (as in the nursery rhyme "Hickory, Dickory Dock, the mouse ran up the clock". Excellent condition, mechanism and music function well and delightfully. Germany, circa 1890, attributed to Zinner and Sohne.
