Two American Cloth Handmade Topsy-Turvy Dolls

12" (30 cm.) Each topsy-turvy has alternate doll heads posed on opposite ends of a muslin torso,and is designed so that the full- length costume which accompanies each head will hide the alternate head. On the larger example,each head is double-sided depicting different moods for each doll; the black doll with embroidered features,and the white doll with inked features. The smaller example features simplistic painting of features on each doll. Condition: good,costumes are original albeit need freshening and features on white girl are faded on larger doll,and faces on smaller doll are aged. Comments: American,handmade,late 19th century. Value Points: charming imaginative designs including four-faced larger doll,and original costumes.
