Description
16" (41 cm.) and 20". Each is all cloth with unusual block-shaped heads with one head seam encircling the sides and crown, with painted facial features and hair, each having painted black hair, and well-defined facial features including eyes, entire nose (of nearly identical shape),and lips. The larger doll has stitch jointing at hips and shoulders. Condition: very good, original finish with some craquelure and darkening. Comments: American, late 19th century, from small cottage industry whose maker is unknown, the very similar painting of the facial features, especially the nose, and similar block shape of the head suggests the same maker of both. Value Points: artfully-painted features, the eye shading especially rich and deep, great antique costumes.
