Description
16" (41 cm.) and 20". Each is all cloth with unusual block-shaped
heads with one head seam encircling the sides and crown,with
painted facial features and hair,each having painted black
hair,and well-defined facial features including eyes,entire nose
(of nearly identical shape),and lips. The larger doll has stitch
jointing at hips and shoulders. Condition: very good,original
finish with some craquelure and darkening. Comments: American,late
19th century,from small cottage industry whose maker is
unknown,the very similar painting of the facial
features,especially the nose,and similar block shape of the head
suggests the same maker of both. Value Points: artfully-painted
features,the eye shading especially rich and deep,great antique
costumes.
