20" (51 cm.) All-cloth doll with press-shaped features including eyelids and cheek lines,thickly oil-painted complexion and facial features,stitched-on ears,outlined brown eyes with closed mouth,shapely torso,stitch jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and knees,stitched definition of fingers and separate thumbs,oil-painted lower arms and legs. Condition: the oil-painted finish has old heavy repainting,body is darkened with old repairs. Comments: American,circa 1880,in the manner of Izannah Walker yet with more shapely body. Value Points: compelling expression on the very rare early doll,with wonderful early costume.
