Description
21" (53 cm.) Each is all-cloth lady doll with center-seamed face, definition of forehead, nose, and chin,ink-drawn facial features, outlined upper-glancing eyes, very stern expression of painted lips,stitched-on wig,lady-shaped body with stitch jointing at shoulders and hips, antique costume. Condition: very good. Comments: American, circa 1890,a note attached to the doll reads "two strange sisters of cloth",and indicates that the doll was previously in the famous collection of Samuel Pryor and later in the collection of Mary Merritt Doll Museum. Value Points: the sister dolls likely were portraits of actual sisters as they have differences, yet great similarities, and with great provenance.
