22" (56 cm.) Bisque socket head with very full cheeks and chin,brown glass paperweight inset eyes with heavily modeled eyelids,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,mauve-blushed eye shadow,brush-stroked and multi-feathered brows,accented eye corners,shaded nostrils,closed mouth with defined space between the outlined pale lips,separately modeled pierced ears,extended- length auburn mohair wig over cork pate,French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists,plump limbs. Condition: generally excellent,a small flake at upper forehead (under wig). Marks: 10 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau,circa 1884,from the commissioned sculpture by Carrier-Belleuse,the model known as Bebe Triste in reference to her wistful expression. Value Points: rare size of the beloved model has especially beautiful painting around the eyes,rare wig,original body and body finish,and fine antique brown velvet dress with burgundy trim,bonnet,undergarments and shoes.
