18" (46 cm.) Black-complexioned bisque shoulderhead with uniquely-modeled features, slender facial modeling, defined upturned nose, black glass inset eyes with modeled eyelids, painted black lashes and brows, slightly-parted lips with two rows of tiny teeth, pierced ears, original ornamental headdress over original cork pate, black all-wooden fashion body with dowel articulation at shoulders, elbows, wrists, thighs, knees and ankles. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, attributed to Bru, the doll was likely created as an exclusive presentation for International Exposition in Paris, either 1867 or 1878; one other identical facial model with swivel head and kid body has been located. Value Points: extraordinarily beautiful and rare portrait poupee has choice lustrous complexion, wooden articulated body, and is wearing superb original costume of multi-layered original silk and velvet with metallic threads, with matching headdress.
