20" (51 cm.) All-wooden hand-carved doll,socket head with deeply-
defined and tinted facial features,carved ears,original coiled
braid,unusual 13-piece body with elaborate metal-hinge and string
articulation,carved wooden shoes. Condition: generally excellent.
Comments: early 20th century,maker unknown,probably American folk
art. Value Points: wonderful characterization,ingenious articulation
of the folk doll; included is a carved walnut-framed fainting couch
with original leather tufted cover.
