32" (81 cm.) One-piece carved wooden head and torso with
elaborately detailed facial features,elongated throat,shapely
torso,on wooden cage base with original wooden platform,armature
upper arms,carved wooden hands,original brunette wig in long
braid,pierced ears,deeply sculpted painted brown eyes with thick
dark eyeliner,brush-stroked brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth
with center accent line. Condition: original finish,with some
flaking on eye rim and chin,two fingers broken. Comments:
Continental,late 18th century. Value Points: original finish with
very expressive sculpting and painting,the cage-skirt parade doll
wears her extraordinary original silk brocade costume with
cape,metallic trim,and very elaborate headdress. Ex-collection
Margaret Woodbury Strong,being sold to benefit the Strong's
collections funds.
