26" (66 cm.) All-wooden doll with swivel head,carved strong features of stern-faced gentleman with aquiline nose,firmly set lips of closed mouth,inset brown enamel eyes in deeply set sockets,brush-stroked brows,accented nostrils,original wiry-brown hair,all-wooden torso with dowel-jointing at hips,knees,shoulders and elbows. Condition: original finish with age wear and darkening of face,costume pants are very frail,costume overall age dusty. Comments: Continental,18th century,the gentleman representing aristocracy. Value Points: original hand-stitched costume with superb greatcoat with medallion buttons,silk waistcoat,wonderful high boots with turned flaps. Ex-collection Margaret Woodbury Strong.
