Description
16" (41 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered wooden base with
wooden ball feet is a bisque-headed clown with untinted white
complexion,painted lashes,single stroke brows,closed mouth with
wide smile,white mohair wig,carton torso and legs,metal upper
arms,metal hands,wearing original red and gold silk jester costume
and bi-corn cap with gilt metallic trim,and holding a decorated
wooden guitar. When wound,music gaily plays and he turns his head
side to side,and strums the guitar. Condition: generally
excellent. Marks: (original paper music label with "Ta Ra Ra Boum"
ink script indicating the song being played). Comments: attributed
to Roullet et Decamps,circa 1890. Value Points: charming simple
automaton is enhanced by merry tune,and wonderful and rare
character face model,likely from Simon and Halbig's 1300 series.
