Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque head
girl with blue glass paperweight inset eyes,dark eyeliner,long
dark curly lashes,brush-stroked and feathered brows,accented
nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with shaded and outlined
lips,defined space between the lips,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig
over cork pate,French carton torso and legs,wire upper arms,bisque
forearms. Condition: generally excellent,handle broken on creamer.
Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau 4 (head) Marche Indienne (pencilled note
on original paper label on base),Comments: Leopold Lambert,circa
1888,when wound the doll turns head side to side,and nods,then
lifts her right hand,gracefully pouring tea into a cup,then
extending her left hand to offer tea; meanwhile music plays. The
automaton appeared in original Lambert catalog as "Bebe Russe".
Value Points: especially beautiful face with fine creamy
complexion,the bebe wears her original Russian silk folklore
costume,velvet headdress with "jewel" trim and matching
necklace,and holds original wooden tray and dishes; music and
mechanism function well.
