17" (43 cm.) Bisque shoulder head of chubby-faced girl with sculpted short bobbed hair in side-parted fashion,blue glass sleep eyes,painted curly lashes,brush-stroked brows,accented nostrils,tiny open mouth,two teeth,kid pin-jointed body,composition and wooden ball-jointed arms,composition lower legs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Made in Germany Century Doll Co. Simon & Halbig 200/2. Comments: Circa 1925,Century Doll Co,the New York doll firm created a line of composition dolls and also offered bisque head dolls commissioned by them from Germany. Kestner is known as their supplier of heads,according to existing doll literature,and thus to find an example with the Simon and Halbig marking (the competitor of Kestner) is a discovery. Value Points: most pleasing expression and quality,in fine unplayed with condition,wearing factory- original costume.
