Description
16" (41 cm.) Bisque shoulder head with oval slender face in
uptilted pose,blue glass sleep eyes with heavily-modeled
eyelids,mohair lashes,painted lower lashes,feathered
brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth,blonde mohair wig over
plaster pate,slender kid body with pin-jointing at hips,knees and
shoulders,slender bisque forearms. Condition: generally excellent.
Marks: 172 3 (head) (Kestner crown and streamer label on body).
Comments: Kestner,circa 1910,from the designs of the noted
American illustrator,Charles Dana Gibson,whose vignette sketches
of haughty society ladies epitomized society at the turn of the
19th/20th century; so recognizable was his design that it became a
signature appellation for this certain type of lady,"The Gibson
Girl". Value Points: wonderfully-preserved example,with beautiful
bisque,original mohair lashes,original wig and plaster pate,sturdy
original body,and original costume.
