Description
16" (41 cm.) Bisque shoulder head with plump rounded face, painted blue downcast eyes in deeply-set sockets, decorative glaze at lower eyes, heavy eyelids with delicately-painted lashes, arched feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with outlined lips, unpierced ears, blonde lambswool wig over cork pate, hollow (so-called "blown") leather body in exact style and size of classic Huret gutta percha body, with dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Poupee Brevete SGDG (body stamp). Comments: Adelaide Huret, circa 1860,on deposed poupee body of Pierre-Victor Clement. Clement,a maker of finely crafted leather shoes, deposed a system of creating doll bodies that would be made in a similar manner as shaping shoes. His doll body was a veritable copy of the Huret poupee body, but likely due to its luxury expense was a commercial failure, thus very rare today. Value Points: very beautiful Huret model with finest artistic painting,on rare perfectly-preserved Clement body with original signature, wearing antique white pique gown with soutache embroidery, undergarments, leather ankle boots, and with three additional antique gowns included.
