Description
18" (46 cm.) Bisque head with flanged neck,brown sculpted hair in
tousled bobbed style,tiny brown glass sleep eyes,shaded
nostrils,open mouth with wide beaming smile,two porcelain upper
teeth,tongue,deeply-dimpled cheeks,muslin body composition
limbs,nicely costumed. Condition: professional restoration to the
hair,does not extend to the face area which painting is entirely
original. Marks: Gladdie Copr. by Helen W. Jensen Germany.
Comments: Gladdie,from a series of dolls by American women artists
commissioned by George Borgfeldt Importers,this by Helen Jensen
(see O' Fancy What a Jubilee,page 163 for details of her
work),circa 1925. The doll is more commonly found in an
earthenware version. Value Points: rare bisque version of the
wonderfully-sculpted namesake child.
