Description
28" (71 cm.) l. Carved wooden bed designed to sit against a
wall,the metal canopy rod attached to that side,while the
displayed side is decorated with very elaborate gilt carvings in
the Louis XVI style. The bed is fitted with mattress,beautiful bed
fittings and lace canopy. Excellent condition. The paper label of
"Lemaire,2 Rue Chapon,Paris" appears on the underside. The luxury
Parisian toy shop that appears to have existed from about 1830 to
1860 was described in an early children's magazine as having "the
most splendid miniature creations the imagination can dream up...a
sumptuous bazaar". French,circa 1850.
