13" (33 cm.) Solid domed bisque shoulder head with light brown/sienna complexion depicting an aged woman,deeply impressed age lines over all the face,tiny blue intaglio eyes with heavy lids,strong nose,painted brown brows,closed mouth with downcast lips,prominently sculpted strong cheekbones and jowls,white mohair wig,original brown muslin body,composition lower arms,wearing kidskin beaded costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Heubach (square) 9487 Germany (head) Hand-stuffed Made in Germany (body). Comments: Gebruder Heubach,circa 1910,the doll portrays Princess Angeline,(1811-1896) the eldest daughter and last living descendant of the great Suquamish Chief Seattle; the sad story of this remarkable woman has been the subject of books and extensive research. The doll is a precisely accurate rendition of actual photographs taken during her final years. Value Points: extraordinary sculpting enhanced by finest quality of bisque and painting on the rare portrait model; few examples are known to exist.
