Description
12" (30 cm.) Still tied into their original (worn) box are two
dolls with paper mache shoulder heads, painted facial features, blue
eyes,aged wrinkles and lines,modeled white thick brows,hinged
jaw,straw-filled muslin body with paper mache lower limbs, painted
shoes and socks, the doll dressed as man with sculpted white pork
chop sideburns, each doll with original wire pince-nez. Condition:
generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1900,the man
represented Foxy Grandpa from the US comic strip series of the
era. The story line of Foxy Grandpa detailed the exploits of a
Grandpa who constantly out-tricked his mischievous grandchildren,a
reversal of The Katzenjammer Kids story line. As the woman in this
pair also wears pince-nez glasses,it is likely that she was
actually also Foxy Grandpa in a get-up designed to fool the
grandkids. Value Points: rare pair of dolls in perfectly-preserved
state.
