14" (36 cm.) Composition head with highly-characterized features
to depict the "Popeye" character,exaggerated jaw,painted line-
drawing features,wooden white cap with black brim,one-piece
composition elongated torso with painted classic Popeye
costume,exaggerated musculature of composition arms,wooden legs
with jointing at knees and hips,oversize orange wooden shoes.
Marks: "King Features Syn. Inc,1935". Condition: very good,some
paint flakes at back of head,missing pipe. Comments: Circa 1935,a
similar model in smaller size has been found with original J.
Chein label. Value Points: rare comic figure perfectly captures
the illustration design.
