Polychromed terra cotta depicting a solemn-faced gentleman with intelligent gaze, bald forehead crown, sculpted shaded brown hair at sides and back crown, enamel brown eyes, strong cheek bones and chin, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted blue stockings and tan shoes with red buckles, wearing original lined linen coat with silk covered buttons, vest with matching buttons, sash, green silk twill breeches. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Neapolitan, mid-1700s, designed for presentation in a village scene. Value Points: fine original painting of hair and complexion enhances the outstanding realistic sculpting, original costume.
