Description
19" (48 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque-head
girl with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark painted lashes
and brows,rose blushed eye shadow,accented nostrils,closed mouth
with outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork
pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. She
appears to be holding a lidded woven basket which actually
protrudes from torso rods and which hide a little feathered bird.
When wound, music gaily plays, the little girl turns from side to
side, nods and lifts the lid of the basket to reveal a feathered
bird hiding inside; the bird flits from side to side. Condition:
generally excellent, mechanism and music function well, costume
somewhat frail. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4 (and artist
checkmarks),(original music tune on the underside). Comments:
Leopold Lambert, circa 1890. Value Points: charming vignette with
beautiful "surprise" movements, wonderful music box, costume is
original albeit frail.
