Description
18" (46 cm.) A seated black child with large sculpted paper mache
head having well-defined curls,modeled ears,large round brown
glass eyes, modeled black brows, closed mouth modeled as though open
with wide beaming smile and two sculpted rows of teeth. The back
of head is flat and opens for access to interior mechanical
works, carton torso, metal rod upper arms and legs, black paper mache
hands and bare feet with one pointing finger on right hand. When
wound, the child is designed to repetitively "flirt" eyes side-to-
side, and waves arms and legs,as though delighted, and to draw
attention to whatever the storekeeper has placed in the store
window. Condition: structurally excellent,complete and
original, mechanism a bit sluggish and needs adjustment.
Germany,early 20th century,a rare and delightful attention-getter.
