16" (41 cm.) Carved one-piece wooden head and torso of aged man
with carved gaunt facial features,dark enamel inset eyes,strong
nose,closed mouth with sculpted teeth,defined throat hollow,bald
pate with carved brown flowing hair at the side and back,long
carved beard,wooden arms with separately-sculpted fingers and
dowel-jointing at the shoulders and elbows,pin-jointed wooden
legs,dowel-jointing at the knees,painted shoes,original wooden
stand. Condition: generally excellent,tips of left thumb and baby
finger broken. Comments: Southern Germany,late 18th century. Value
Points: exceptional quality of sculpting of the aged man including
throat and cheek hollows and beard,fine original finish,original
velvet and metallic costume.
