Description
16" (41 cm.) Each has bisque socket head with highly-characterized
and unique features,brown glass flirty eyes,fringed upper
lashes,comma brows with modeling detail,rounded or upturned
nose,closed mouth with beaming smile. Including "Max" with
original body for this model with sculpted black shoes and black
mohair wig,and "Moritz" with standard composition and wooden ball-
jointed toddler body and red auburn mohair wig with topknot.
Condition: Moritz is excellent except non-original body; Max has
restoration to the head (break and reglue visible inside the
head,features have original painting). Marks: K*R Simon & Halbig
123 (or 124). Comments: Kammer and Reinhardt,cie 1917,from their
art character doll series,inspired by the characters in the German
storybook by Wilhelm Busch,and popularized in the US in the early
20th century in The Katzenjammer Kids comic strip series. Value
Points: rare and important companion dolls with distinctive and
captivating modeling.
