Description
25" (64 cm.) Solid domed bisque socket head,lightly-painted boyish hair,over-sized ears, painted facial features, small pale blue eyes, thick black upper eyeliner, rounded nose, closed mouth modeled as though open with outlined lips, composition and wooden ball- jointed body, antique boys costume including plaid woolen hooded coat. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: W.S.K. 130 Germany. Comments: Adolf Wislizensus, circa 1911,from the rare series of art character dolls introduced in that year under the new directorship of Hans Heincke; another example of a rare doll from this series is #248 in this auction. The art character dolls of Kammer and Reinhardt and Gebruder Heubach mostly controlled the market share,so few buyers were found for Wislizensus art dolls; production was very small and for a short period only making them very rare today. Value Points: rare model with outstanding bisque and sculpting especially the impressed double-dimples at each cheek, crinkles at eye corners, and double chin.
