25" (64 cm.) Solid domed bisque socket head,lightly-painted boyish
hair,over-sized ears,painted facial features,small pale blue
eyes,thick black upper eyeliner,rounded nose,closed mouth modeled
as though open with outlined lips,composition and wooden ball-
jointed body,antique boys costume including plaid woolen hooded
coat. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: W.S.K. 130 Germany.
Comments: Adolf Wislizensus,circa 1911,from the rare series of art
character dolls introduced in that year under the new directorship
of Hans Heincke; another example of a rare doll from this series
is #248 in this auction. The art character dolls of Kammer and
Reinhardt and Gebruder Heubach mostly controlled the market
share,so few buyers were found for Wislizensus art dolls;
production was very small and for a short period only making them
very rare today. Value Points: rare model with outstanding bisque
and sculpting especially the impressed double-dimples at each
cheek,crinkles at eye corners,and double chin.
