Description
18" (46 cm.) Bisque socket head with alternate faces on front and
back,one face depicting a crying child (Jumeau model 211) with
narrow blue glass eyes,painted lashes,brush-stroked brows,accented
nostrils,and closed mouth modeled as wide open in crying
pose,having sculpted tongue,teeth,and outlined lips; the other
face depicting a smiling child (Jumeau model 203) with large blue
glass paperweight inset eyes,long curly lashes,brush-stroked and
feathered brows,shaded nostrils,closed mouth with wide beaming
smile,sculpted teeth and outlined lips. The head is enclosed in a
cardboard hood and the faces can be alternately hidden or revealed
by means of turning knob at top of her head; with original blonde
mohair wig,French composition and wooden fully-jointed
body,vintage silk costume. Condition: generally excellent.
Comments: Jumeau/SFBJ,the doll was created with two of the very
rare 200 character series faces designed by Jumeau in the early
1890s; the bebe continued in production in a very rare
commissioned series under SFBJ until about 1910. Value Points:
rare doll in well-preserved condition,very wonderfully expressive
faces and beautiful quality of bisque and painting. $6000/8500ge
size of the desirable model with superb bisque and
painting,original body and body finish.
