Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered wooden base is a
bisque-head doll with brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark
eyeliner,lushly-painted lashes,brush-stroked brows,shaded
nostrils,closed mouth with outlined lips,pierced ears,blonde
mohair wig over cork pate, bisque shoulder plate and lower
arms, carton torso and legs. When wound, the doll turns her head
from side to side, then nods, while alternately lifting her right
arm to pour tea,and then extending her left arm to offer tea;
music plays. Condition: generally excellent, restoration to right
arm, mechanism and music function well. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau 4
(doll) L.B.,(key). La Czarina 906 (pencil inscription on paper
tune label). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1893,the Russian-
themed automaton was created in homage to the illustrious 1892
Parisian visit of the Russian Tsar Alexander III; the automaton
appropriately wears a traditional Russian silk costume of elegant
silks and velvet, including headdress, and the musical tune is La
Czarina composed by Russian Louis Ganne in 1893. Value Points:
historically reflective automaton is beautifully-preserved and
with charming movements and music.
