Description
16" (41 cm.) seated. Seated upon a gilded wooden arm chair is a
bisque-head doll with brown glass paperweight inset eyes,richly-
painted lashes and brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed
mouth with outlined lips,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork
pate,carton torso and lower arms and legs,wire upper arms and
legs,original silk and lace costume; the scene posed upon a red
velvet covered base. When wound,music plays,her head moves up and
down as though watching herself knitting,and her hands flit
realistically in knitting fashion. Condition: generally
excellent,mechanism and movement function well. Marks: Depose Tete
Jumeau 5 (and artist checkmarks on head). Comments: Roullet et
Decamps,circa 1890,the automaton appeared in the original company
catalog as #256 named "Bebe Tricoteur". Value Points: the charming
vignette is wonderfully preserved,depicting a captivating homey
scene.
