Description
20" (51 cm.) Seated on a stool upon a velvet-covered wooden base
is a bisque-head doll with amber brown glass paperweight inset
eyes,lushly-painted lashes,brush-stroked brows,open mouth,tiny
teeth,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,carton torso,bisque lower
arms,wearing silk costume,a wooden spinning wheel and a flax
holder in front. When wound,music plays and the doll turns head
from side to side,while spinning the wheel with her right hand,and
turning the flax holder with her left. Condition: generally
excellent,mechanism and music function well,velvet faded,some
elements of costume are replacements. Marks: 2. Comments: Roullet
& Decamps,with Jumeau bisque head,circa 1890,the model has
appeared in their original catalog as model #334 named
"Fileuse",and appears to be part of a series featuring daily home
scenes that also included "Tapisseuse" (needlework),Repasseuse
(ironing),and Blanchisseuse (laundry). Value Points: rarely found
automaton with realistic movements.
