Description
11" (28 cm.) A wooden chair stands upon a wooden platform with
painted grass cover,alongside a wooden-handled bellows with
painted grass cover; seated on the chair is a bisque-head clown
with blue glass eyes,brush-stroked brows,closed mouth,block
torso,wire arms,wooden hands,paper mache loosely-jointed legs.
When the bellows is pressed,the clown performs any number of
acrobatic tricks in an amusing manner. Condition: clown and
mechanism excellent,finish on chair and base is scuffed. Marks:
H.G,Paris (incised on head). Comments: Circa 1890,French,the maker
of the French mechanical and pull toys characterized by the
distinctively painted base remains a mystery; the head is a rare
model by Henri Delcroix of Paris. Value Points: delightful toy
with delightful tricks,rare bisque head,original silk costume.
