17" (43 cm.) The wooden sedan chair with domed top and bombe sides and back has an opening door at the front; the chair has original bronze green finish to simulate aged patina,with gilt borders and accents,and having on each side,as well as on the roof,a hand- painted romantic scene in the 18th-century Watteau style. There are two matching detachable carrying handles,and the door opens to a lavishly-fitted interior with patterned silk lining,and a tufted silk back and pillow. Excellent condition. French,circa 1875,an outstanding example of the classic sedan chair.
