Description
14" (36 cm.) The six-sided kiosk in classic 19th-century Parisian
style,has heavy board sides and is decorated on the exterior walls
with a myriad of posters advertising everything from the latest
Parisian revues (e.g."Les Folies Bergeronnettes") to chocolate
treats to even a poster advertising the latest in French toys. the
kiosk hinges open to the fitted interior with shelves and racks
holding nearly 50 folded miniature newspapers,along with a desk
and a window that opens to serve the public. Included is a bisque
doll with painted brown hair and blue glass eyes,closed mouth with
painted teeth,five-piece composition walking-style body,antique
costume,marked 227 3/0. Condition: the kiosk is intact and
complete,albeit fading and some spotting on posters; the doll has
tiniest eye rim flake and nose rub. Comments: French,circa 1910.
Value Points: among the rarest of the French menage toys presented
in the Parisian Etrennes catalogs,chock-ful of miniature journals
and newspapers,and with rare size of the SFBJ art character doll.
