Description
17" (43 cm.) w. x 23"h. The wooden piano with ebony finish and elephant-shaped cast iron legs is surmounted by a display cabinet with mirrored back that contains eleven miniature porcelain-head dolls. When the keys are played, a mechanism connects with the dolls which dance about. The piano is labeled "Gem" in gilt lettering. Excellent condition, mechanism functions well. The dancing dolls piano was patented on June 21, 1881, marketed as "Bailey's Midget Piano"; it was made in several sizes, this appearing to be the most deluxe of the models. It is very rare to find.
