8" (20 cm.) x 6" x 3 1/2"h. Of finest woods,the box is shaped with bombe top and sides,and is trimmed with black narrow striping; and has bone feet and bail handles. It opens to a mirrored back with coral velvet edging,and velvet-lined fitted tray with rose-silk edged recesses and an embroidered velvet panel at the back. Designed as both a sewing and pen box,with original mother-of-pearl and gold tools,three with original Palais Royal pansy emblem,including seal,pen and gold-capped inkwells,scissors,thimble,needle case with eagle head,two thread winders,gold-capped perfume bottle,and five additional tools. The tray lifts out to reveal hidden compartment below,and the box has original lock and key. Excellent condition. French,Palais Royal,circa 1810.
