Description
12" (30 cm.) l. 7"h. The rosewood-veneer sewing necessaire
in the shape of a grand piano with inlay faux keys on the
lid is fitted with brass claw feet and brass appliques of
garlands and wreaths,with lock and key in fancy
escutcheon. The lid hinges open to reveal the luxuriously-
fitted purple velvet interior containing a very fancy
hallmarked silver thimble,and silver scissors,awl and
needlecase,along with unusual mother-of-pearl tools
including three snowflakes,winders and file. Beneath a
silver bead and metallic-thread embroidered panel is a
musical box with lovely quality music,which operates from
original key. Excellent condition,one winder has two
chipped tips,music functions well. French,circa 1825.
