Description
24" (61 cm.) w. x 17" x 18"h. The wooden sewing table is
lavishly decorated in the Boulle marquetry tradition with
rich inlays of brass and exotic woods,with richly
ornamented brass frames and having a hinged lid and
opening drawer. The inside lid has a gilt brass framed
mirror and there are numerous compartments and a sliding
drawer for wool and thread rolls. Excellent condition.
French,circa 1870,the 19th century style was a revival of
the cabinetwork of Andre-Charles Boulle,(1642-1732)
considered the pre-eminent craftsman in French marquetry
design
