Description
13" (33 cm.) x 8" x 6". Of fine burled wood and with elegant subtle curved shape to the sides and beveled top,the chest has lighter wood stripe inlay and metal escutcheon. The case opens to a mirrored back and fitted base with lift-out tray hiding the ?love letter" compartment below. The tray has a blue velvet pincushion,four compartments with bone handles,an open section with 11 various bone or wooden sewing tools,and a blue velvet tray with fitted recesses for the original set of silver sewing tools comprising scissors,needle case,stiletto,knife,thimble and finger protector,Excellent condition. Germany,mid-1800s. A German-language newspaper dated 1854 is in the lower section.
