5 1/2" (14 cm.) The cigar-shaped wooden case has Vernis
Martin finish with wonderful oil-painted scenes of 18th
century children at play against a sienna background,and
having silver mounts which,when opened,reveal tortoise
lining,for storage of bodkins. A built-in spyglass
enlarges or diminishes objects when viewed from one end or
the other. Excellent condition,very fine detail of
painting with rare spyglass inclusion. French,circa 1780.
