Description
5" (13 cm.) x 3". With mother-of-pearl veneers in elegant
pattern and having gilt framing,escutcheon and borders
that enclose a glass-covered watercolor depicting the
promenade walk at the old ramparts at Burg Bastey in
Vienna featuring the awning-front building,and a wide
tree-lined promenade in which more than 16 men and women
in fashionable attire are parading. The case opens to a
mirrored back with blue edging,and a dark blue velvet
fitted lining containing original mother-of-pearl sewing
tools comprising scissors,folding knife,unusually-shaped
stiletto,winder,rare folding ruler,and silver thimble.
Excellent condition,a rare view with fine color and
detail. Vienna,circa 1820,with painting by Balthasar
Wigand,and the box likely from his own workshops.
