Description
7" (18 cm.) x 4 1/2". Having fine mother-of-pearl veneers
with elaborate gilt escutcheon,and frame that surround a
miniature watercolor featuring an elaborate background
including the Weilburg palace with surrounding
towers,countryside,mountains,rivers,bridge,village and a
wide boulevard with 17 persons featured in various
activities. The case opens to mirrored back with coral
cording and with original velvet-fitted base containing an
original set of mother-of-pearl sewing tools,comprising
scissors with silver blades,stiletto,parasol-shaped needle
case with eagle handle,thimble,knife,folding knife,winder
and threader,each with gold accents. The tray lifts out
for access to hidden compartment below; key is included.
Excellent condition,the watercolor is especially fresh
with rich colors and shading. Vienna,circa 1830,with
watercolor by Balthasar Wigand,and sewing case likely from
his own workshops.
