Imaginative French Alabaster Sewing Box with Gilt Peacock Decoration

6" (15 cm.) An elaborately-carved alabaster sewing box with leaf-shaped feet is decorated with ormolu corners and trim; posed in the center of the lid is a gilt metal peacock with painted detail of feathers that lift for access to the thimble case (thimble not included),and at the peacock尽 feet are gilt metal leaves with porcelain flowers and one ormolu framed velvet pincushion. Excellent condition excepting some small alabaster repairs,French,circa 1850.
