Description
8" (20 cm.) x 6". The wooden box has a borders of
marquetry and inlay that surround an oil-painted scene in
which a troubadour presents a treasure to the lady and
gentleman standing behind him,with extensive details of
architecture and furnishings. The box opens to a mirrored
back with gold paper and braid framing,and a base lined
with rose velvet fitted to accommodate the silver sewing
tools contained,including a large needle case surmounted
by a basket of fruit and having chatelaine
attachment,silver scissors,needlecase,awl,bodkin,knife,and
a bead-trimmed pin cushion,two mother-of-pearl winders,and
a glass bottle. Excellent condition,the set is complete
and original. Viennese,Beidermeier era,circa 1840.
